Homesteader's Cake

Ingredients:
- 1 C. water
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 C. raisins
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 C. brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 1/3 C. margarine
- 2 C. flour
- 1 tsp. Cinnamon
- 1 C. chopped walnuts
- 1/2 tsp. allspice
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
Preparation
Boil water, raisins, sugar, margarine, cinnamon, allspice, cloves and nutmeg together for 3 minutes; cool.
Dissolve soda in a tablespoon of water. Add dissolved soda and salt to raisin mixture. The warmer the
mixture the more it bubbles. Stir flour and nuts together in large mixing bowl. Pour in raisin mixture
and mix well. Pour into greased and floured loaf pan. Bake 1 hour at 350°.
