In Memoriam
Deacon George Karlis
May 5, 1922 - April 8, 1989
George was born and raised in Salem, Ohio. At age 13 he prayed to receive Christ. He served 8 years in the U.S. Army and
was stationed in Europe during World War II. He was discharged in California where he worked in the aerospace industry
from 1954 to 1987. George and his wife, Anita, were married in 1957 and had four children.
In 1972 he rededicated his life to Christ while attending Christ Community Church in Canoga Park, California. He and his
family moved to the Antelope Valley in 1976 and began attending Valley Bible Church.
George was involved in founding the AWANA ministries at both Christ Community and Valley Bible and was an AWANA leader for
12 years. He also served as a deacon at VBC for many years. Fellowship and hospitality were always a concern of his for
the body of Christ here at Valley Bible.
Deacon Gordon Kemble
May 26, 1939 - September 28, 2002
Gordon Kemble was born in Wakarusa, Indiana, and grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He accepted God's free gift of salvation at age eight.
Gordon received a bachelor of divinity degree from Denver Seminary and served on the staff of Christian Service Brigade, a national youth
organization, while working professionally as a graphic designer.
He and his family moved to the Antelope Valley in 1985 and, after a few years, began attending Valley Bible Church. Gordon served as a deacon
for several years and took an early retirement to serve full-time with the VBC staff. Gordon's teaching, leadership of our adult education ministries,
and leadership of a growth group for young professionals will be missed.
